Premier Sprint Championship 2013, Rd.1

Having missed most of last year, Jamie Jakins was back and signalled his intentions for the year by claiming pole for final 1. Excellent qualifying heats, including a win, saw rookie Peter Cole line up alongside. The reigning Lightweight champion was on top form and chased Jakins hard before making his move and taking the lead on lap 3. Trott, Goddard and Hanson also found a way past Jakins – his rustiness possibly showing through. Back with the leaders and Cole was under pressure from veteran Troot. However, the rookie kept his head and won first time out. Jakins was barely a tenth of a second behind and Jonny Goddard secured his first prem podium in 3rd.

It was a day of firsts with Chris Hanson taking his first premier pole for final 2. Rookie Scott Martin did a superb job to line up 2nd with Cole yet again impressing with 3rd. Hanson made the most of his pole. Martin dropped back to 5th leaving Cole to chase down the leader and Trott right on his tail. The battle for 2nd was close until Trott made his move on lap 7. By this time Hanson had built a half second lead but, once clear of Cole, Trott soon ate into this lead and easily sailed past on lap 10 to win.
