Jack Harding and Liam Nolan both made a welcome return to Club100 sprint racing. However, it was rookie driver Simon Rudd who would be a man to watch. A legend of the Buckmore Park championships, “The Machine” was tipped to go well here and he duly delivered. A 2nd and 1st in his qualifying heats saw him take pole for final 1. He made the most of his pole position and led round the opening lap. There was a great battle for 2nd between dave Walters and James Dowding; a battle that lasted for most of the race. The two exchanged places lap after lap and this allowed Rudd to extend his lead and comfortably win by 5 seconds. Walters emerged victorious from his battle with Dowding, who claimed the final spot on the podium. Rudd once again took pole for final 2. He was joined by fellow Buckmore Park specialist Jack Harding. Walters was once again in the mix. The Buckmore regulars disappeared off the line and enjoyed a close battle for the lead, opening a gap of several seconds. Other than a few position changes in the mid field, the running order at the front remained largely unchanged. Rudd held off Harding to win by a tenth of a second in what was a dominant display. It will be interesting to see whether he can repeat this performance at other circuits…
