Heavyweight Clubman Sprint Championship 2013, Rd.7

Final 1

Good qualifying heats saw Alex Ring claim pole for the first final. Jamie Bird was alongside him with Mike Bodnar 3rd. An impressive couple of heats saw Alex Withington claim fourth with the ever rapid Jon Pethick fifth.

Ring led the field round the opening lap with Bodnar getting the jump on Jamie Bird who also lost out to Pethick. A few laps later he was passed by the flying Stuart Martin who was on a charge; taking Bodnar for 3rd. Pethick was up to 2nd but also in Martin’s sights and was passed on the last lap. Up ahead, Alex Ring managed to edge a 0.5s gap over the group of battling karts behind and crossed the line for his first sprint win.

Final 2

Steven Jennings took pole for final 2 with Stuart Martin once again looking like a threat in 2nd. Pethick and Barney Langley were next with Alex Ring fifth and looking for more success.

The leading group completed the first lap in grid order. Ring managed to get past Langley for 4th and then dispatched Pethick on lap 3. A fierce battle ensued between Pethick, RIng and Gerard Moore. Further ahead, Jennings was holding off the attentions of Stuart Martin and Dan Hoy. With 2 laps to go, the top 6 was separated by barely 0.5s. Leader Jennings was the big loser as he was pushed wide, dropping to 6th. Martin took the lead with Hoy right behind and Ring all over the back of the both of them. A move for the lead on the last lap by Hoy saw Martin drop behind them both and Ring took full advantage; nipping past Hoy and crossing the line a fraction ahead. Hoy was 2nd and Pethick 3rd.
